Montreal-based fintech Trolley is teaming up with OpenPlay to simplify royalty payments for the global music industry.
The collaboration sees Trolley’s end-to-end payouts infrastructure integrated into OpenPlay Reach, the newly launched service from OpenPlay that helps labels manage, distribute, and monetize music and video assets. The partnership will enable secure, accurate, and scalable royalty disbursements to artists and rightsholders worldwide.
Trolley, which supports over 5 million payees across 210 countries, is already trusted by major platforms and businesses to process billions in payments annually. Through this integration, OpenPlay will leverage Trolley not only for fast international transactions but also for built-in tools like tax form management, compliance, fraud prevention, and risk mitigation.
“Together, we’re empowering music labels and artists with financial transparency and seamless, artist-level payouts so that creators everywhere can thrive,” said Tim Nixon, CEO and founder of Trolley.
The partnership aims to support the independent music sector by reducing intermediaries in the royalty payment process and giving labels and artists direct access to enterprise-grade payout capabilities.
Launched in February 2025, OpenPlay Reach expands OpenPlay’s broader mission of delivering a complete, cost-effective business engine for the music industry. The addition of Trolley’s technology is expected to further strengthen OpenPlay’s offering by giving clients tighter financial control and visibility over royalty flows.
Trolley raised $31.4 million in Series B funding last year to scale its platform, with backing from Wavecrest Growth Partners and Pace Capital.
