One of Canada’s largest banks is overhauling their rewards system.
Bank of Montreal, the country’s third largest bank, is revamping their iconic Air Miles rewards program in favour of a forthcoming proprietary system called Blue Rewards.
BMO, which offered Air Miles rewards for more than 30 years, says that the transition will occur over the summer.
“Blue Rewards completely reimagines the loyalty experience with the client at the centre,” says Mathew Mehrotra, Group Head for Canadian Personal & Business Banking at BMO.
Blue Rewards promises “greater flexibility, enriched benefits, expanded partnerships, and a new streamlined digital experience,” according to a statement from the bank.
The program will be available to Canadians through a Blue Rewards app as well as through BMO’s mobile and web banking apps.
Mehrotra says that, with a “digitally enabled platform, we’re making one of Canada’s most celebrated loyalty programs even better by delivering simpler, flexible, more personalized rewards for members and helping them make real financial progress every day.”
The Blue Rewards app is slated to feature a simplified booking experience for flights, hotels, and car rentals powered by Expedia Group, as well as a slew of new program partners such as Porter Airlines, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Instacart, Manchu Wok, and Mucho Burrito.
“We’re excited to introduce a loyalty experience that fits seamlessly into Canadians’ lives,” remarked Shawn Stewart, President of Blue Rewards.
“With more ways to earn, more places to redeem and a growing network of partners, Blue Rewards is designed to help members find more value in their everyday purchases,” Stewart stated.
AIR MILES collectors will see their Miles automatically convert to Blue Points at the equivalent value with no action required.
The venerable BMO Financial Group is the seventh largest bank in North America with total assets of $1.5 trillion.
