As part of a broader international expansion strategy, trading titan Robinhood recently entered the Canadian market by closing its 2025 acquisition of WonderFi, a fintech firm whose assets include two of the country’s longest-standing regulated crypto platforms, Bitbuy and Coinsquare.
The acquisition also added 300,000 customers to Robinhood’s business.
“WonderFi has extensive experience operating regulated crypto platforms that serve beginner and advanced crypto users alike, making it an ideal partner to accelerate Robinhood’s mission in Canada,” Johann Kerbrat, SVP and General Manager of Robinhood Crypto & International, stated in July.
Last week, Robinhood cemented its rising presence in Canada with a new headquarters in downtown Toronto to serve as a central hub for the company’s expanding engineering and operational teams—which already count more than 200 heads combined.
“Opening our new Toronto office is a milestone for Robinhood,” commented Kerbrat.
“This office is a testament to the incredible talent in Canada and our dedication to providing Canadian investors with access to world-class financial tools,” he said.
Chris Pollock, GM of Robinhood Canada, says that “as we continue to grow, our focus remains on bringing competitive products and transparent services to our users.”
“We are excited to work closely with the local community as we build the future of finance,” he stated.
Robinhood was founded in Silicon Valley in 2013 as an alternative to traditional trading platforms.
