Wise has launched customizable travel eSIM plans for Canadian customers alongside an expansion of cross-border QR payments, bringing mobile connectivity and more ways to pay into its app.
The eSIM offering includes coverage across more than 150 destinations, with customizable plans for select markets. Travellers can choose their data allowance and trip duration, purchase plans through Wise, and install the eSIM once for use across multiple trips.
Wise says data usage begins when the eSIM connects to a supported network at the destination. Customers can also receive refunds for purchased plans they never use.
On payments, Wise is bringing domestic QR networks into a single app, including Singapore’s PayNow, Malaysia’s DuitNow, Brazil’s Pix and Thailand’s PromptPay. The integrations aim to help travellers pay local businesses without relying on cash or setting up separate wallets.
A separate partnership with Alipay+ extends QR payments to more than 50 destinations globally. However, that feature is not available to Wise customers in Canada or the United States.
The launch targets common travel frustrations. A Wise-commissioned YouGov survey of more than 14,000 travellers across 11 countries found that 62% of recent international travellers relied on accommodation Wi-Fi abroad, while 43% reported cash-management challenges.
