‘Toward a Greener Future,’ Moneris Becomes First to Join Recycling Pilot

April 18, 2025 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

Businesses in the Saint-Laurent borough are joining forces to develop new solutions for reusing plastic waste.

Driving this progress toward a circular economy is Montreal’s Polykar, an innovator of sustainable packaging solutions.

Polykar this month announced the launch of PolyVie.

PolyVie is a pilot recycling program aimed at transforming plastic waste from local companies into reusable resources.

“This initiative transforms plastic waste into opportunity, setting a new standard for how communities can work together to drive real progress toward a circular economy,” stated Amir Karim, chief executive officer of Polykar.

Several prominent organizations have already pledged involvement, including eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, apparel maker Majestic, and digital commerce pioneer Moneris Solutions.

“PolyVie is more than a recycling program; it’s a testament to the power of local collaboration,” said Karim. “By bringing together businesses in Saint-Laurent, we’re proving that sustainability starts in our own backyard.”

In the early stages, the program has thus far achieved a 96% recycling rate by diverting thousands of pounds of plastic waste from landfills and repurposing it at Polykar’s facility to create new products.

Sourcing plastic waste locally from businesses, the initiative fosters a community-driven effort to combat environmental challenges, according to a statement from Polykar.

Fintech Moneris was the first partner to join the initiative, recognizing the importance of embedding sustainability into its operations.

“As a company committed to sustainability and responsible commerce, we are proud to partner with Polykar and participate in the PolyVie program,” stated Marc Hollenberg, who serves as Chief Operations Officer at Moneris.

“We look forward to our continued work with Polykar, as we take meaningful steps towards a greener future while actively supporting our local community,” he added.

The Polyvie pilot was brought to life with support from Excellence industrielle Saint-Laurent.

“We are very proud of the commitment of each party and hope to inspire other companies to join this initiative and develop additional synergies,” commented Leesa Hodgson, Executive Director of Excellence industrielle Saint-Laurent.

Polykar is inviting other organizations to participate in PolyVie and be part of the shift toward a more sustainable future.

Polykar was founded in 1987.
