Westland Express, one of Canada’s top tenant insurance providers and a subsidiary of Westland Insurance, is partnering with fintech Karla to help renters turn monthly rent payments into a path for credit-building.
Through the partnership, Westland Express clients can now access Karla’s platform, which reports on-time rent payments to major Canadian credit bureaus, including Equifax and TransUnion. It’s a game-changer for renters—especially students, newcomers, and young professionals—who have traditionally been unable to use rent payments to build their credit profiles in Canada.
“At Westland Express, we’re committed to going beyond traditional insurance solutions,” said James Malcolm, Vice President of Westland Express. “By partnering with Karla, we’re providing our clients with powerful tools to strengthen their financial futures while protecting what matters most today.”
The initiative reflects Westland Express’ broader mission to deliver affordable, fast, and impactful digital insurance products for modern renters. In addition to insurance offerings, the company is now helping tenants improve their long-term financial security through credit reporting tools.
Karla co-founders Robin Gray and Basil Elefth welcomed the collaboration. “While our hearts beat with the credit union community, we’re excited to bring our platform to thousands of landlords, property managers, and renters through Westland Express,” they said. “With seamless rent reporting, AI-powered insights, and direct pathways to credit-building, we’re making financial progress more accessible.”
