EQ Bank is preparing for a significant leadership change following the unexpected passing of its longtime President and CEO, Andrew Moor.
Stepping into the role is Chadwick Westlake, who will return to his former employer after serving as EVP and Chief Financial Officer at OpenText.
Westlake’s transition marks a homecoming to EQ Bank, where he previously held executive roles. His appointment comes as the institution grapples with the sudden loss of Moor, a transformational leader credited with steering EQ Bank into the digital age and helping shape Canada’s challenger banking landscape.
In a statement, OpenText confirmed that Westlake will depart on August 15, 2025, after the completion of the company’s fiscal year-end reporting. The tech firm has begun a formal search for his long-term replacement.
“We appreciate Chadwick’s contributions during his time as CFO, and congratulate him on his new role,” said OpenText CEO and CTO Mark J. Barrenechea. “On behalf of OpenText, I want to express our condolences to the family and colleagues of Andrew Moor.”
Reflecting on his time at OpenText, Westlake said, “It has been a tremendous experience… I leave knowing OpenText has an extremely bright future ahead. I look forward to completing the fiscal year and transitioning my responsibilities before taking on my next opportunity.”
Moor’s legacy at EQ Bank includes pioneering digital banking strategies and challenging the status quo in Canadian financial services. His passing leaves a void in the fintech community, with peers across the industry mourning the loss of a visionary leader.
