Nova Scotian Insurtech Promises Speed and Efficiency for Brokers in Canada

August 13, 2025 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

A Halifax-based insurance technology upstart continues to establish and enhance key partnerships in Canada.

Nova Scotia’s QuickFacts announced this week an expanded collaboration with My Mutual, a longstanding financial services provider out of Saskatchewan.

The partnership will see My Mutual Insurance partnered brokerages access key underwriting details through QuickFacts.

Instead of flipping through PDFs or chasing down updates, brokers get the information they need in seconds, helping them quote accurately and avoid rework, according to Ken Sedgewick, who serves QuickFacts as manager of strategic partnerships, which he says can save on time and costs.

“By offering brokers access to clear, up-to-date information, they’re helping them work faster and smarter, without sacrificing accuracy or service,” Sedgewick said.

The QuickFacts software platform, which leverages AI and blockchain technologies, consolidates insurance carrier data into a searchable database, claiming to reduce underwriting calls by up to 50%.

“We see this partnership as an investment in our brokers,” says Jen Harder, who handles innovation and operations for My Mutual Insurance. “It’s one more way we’re helping them guide policyholders through important insurance decisions with clarity and confidence.”

QuickFacts was founded in 2020 by Jeff and Christy Barsalou. Jeff, a sales expert, serves their startup as chief revenue officer, while former broker Christy functions as CEO.

Since 2020, the Canadian insurtech has established partnerships with over 45 insurance carriers across the nation.

After joining Volta’s Growth Residency in 2022, the Atlantic Canadian innovator eventually secured capital through an oversubscribed $2 million funding round in 2024 led by Sandpiper Ventures with participation from other firms and angel investors, including Paul Hill and Neil Mitchell.
