Nmbr Enables Embedded Payroll Inside Canadian HR Platform

February 17, 2026 by Fintech Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Canadian fintech startup Nmbr has launched its embedded payroll infrastructure in production, powering payroll directly inside HR platform Collage — a first for Canada’s benefits broker ecosystem.

Rather than acting as a payroll provider, Nmbr supplies the regulated backend layer handling payments, calculations, and compliance, allowing software platforms to offer payroll natively within their own products.

“Payroll is one of the most complex systems a business can run,” said Simon Bourgeois, CEO of Nmbr. “We’re making it possible for platforms to offer payroll the same way they offer payments — as infrastructure that lives inside the product.”

Payroll has historically remained separate from HR and benefits systems in Canada, forcing businesses to maintain multiple providers and manually reconcile employee data. Nmbr’s approach embeds payroll into existing workflows so companies onboard employees once and manage HR, benefits, and payroll in a single system.

Collage is the first platform to deploy the technology, launching integrated payroll for customers ranging from small teams to organizations with hundreds of employees.

Recently named one of our Canadian Fintechs to Watch in 2026, Nmbr is positioning embedded payroll as a new infrastructure layer in the country’s fintech stack — turning payroll from standalone software into a built-in capability.

Founded in 2023 by Simon Bourgeois, Drew Millington, and Kevin Langlois, the Toronto-based company raised $7.6 million in seed funding in 2024 to expand its API-driven payroll platform for Canadian software providers.
