Wagepoint Adds Time Tracking and Mobile App

February 19, 2026 by Fintech Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Calgary-based payroll fintech Wagepoint is expanding beyond core payroll into workforce management, launching built-in Timesheets and a new employee mobile app as the company moves to own more of the small-business employment workflow.

The additions bring time tracking and employee self-service directly into Wagepoint’s platform, reducing the need for small businesses to manage hours through spreadsheets or separate tools before running payroll. Approved hours now flow automatically into pay runs, while the mobile app allows workers to submit time, view pay stubs, and update personal information on the go.

The move reflects a broader shift in payroll software from calculation tools toward operational systems. Providers increasingly compete on how much of the employer workflow they control — from onboarding and scheduling to pay and compliance — in order to improve retention and expand revenue opportunities beyond basic payroll processing.

“These are the first of several product launches planned this year as we continue building a platform that brings payroll, time, and people together in one place,” said Jenna Poste, Vice President of Product at Wagepoint.

Canadian payroll providers face additional complexity compared with U.S. counterparts due to provincial overtime rules, statutory holidays, and remittance requirements. Wagepoint’s Timesheets automatically applies overtime rates based on provincial standards, reducing manual reconciliation and compliance risk for small businesses and their advisors.

The company’s new My Wagepoint mobile app also signals a push toward mobile-first payroll workflows — particularly relevant for service businesses and distributed teams where employees may not regularly access desktop systems.

The expansion follows a pattern seen across payroll fintech, where vendors layer adjacent workforce tools to become the system of record for employment data. Controlling that workflow can enable future financial services such as benefits administration, contractor payments, and other embedded offerings.

Founded in 2012, Wagepoint serves more than 30,000 Canadian small businesses and 1,800 accountants and bookkeepers. The platform automates pay runs and CRA remittances and integrates with accounting software including QuickBooks Online, Xero, and FreshBooks.
