Scotiabank has recruited one of TD Bank Group’s top artificial intelligence executives to lead its expanding data and AI strategy.
Luke Gee will join Scotiabank in October as Executive Vice President and Chief Data and AI Officer, a newly created role focused on advancing the bank’s enterprise-wide data and AI initiatives.
Gee brings more than two decades of experience spanning analytics, AI, financial products and business leadership. He joins Scotiabank from TD, where he most recently served as Chief Analytics and AI Officer after holding several senior business and enterprise analytics roles.
Before joining TD, Gee held leadership positions at Royal Bank of Scotland, using data and analytics to support growth and improve business performance.
“Luke is a strong advocate for responsible AI, innovation, and process simplification that removes friction from the client and employee experience,” said Phil Thomas, Group Head and Chief Strategy and Operating Officer at Scotiabank.
“He will play a critical role at the bank by developing secure AI-enabled solutions to advance opportunities for growth and enhanced experiences for our clients and employees.”
The appointment comes as Scotiabank accelerates its adoption of AI across the organization. Earlier this year, the bank launched Scotia Intelligence, a unified enterprise platform designed to give employees secure and scalable access to AI capabilities.
Scotiabank subsequently added a suite of knowledge agents to the platform to help employees navigate internal standards, travel policies and expense procedures. More than 70,000 employees have access to Scotia Intelligence and had collectively generated 14 million actions through the platform as of early August.
Gee’s hiring follows several other external additions to Scotiabank’s technology and AI leadership team this year, including Ty Panagoplos as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and Valli Musti as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Enterprise Data and AI Platforms.
Panagoplos and Musti are members of ScotiaTech, the bank’s global technology organization led by Group Head and Chief Information Officer Tim Clark.
The ScotiaTech and Strategy and Operating groups will work closely with Gee as the two organizations continue to co-lead Scotiabank’s data and AI transformation.
