Dext Connects Accounting Data to Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

October 26, 2026 by Fintech Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Dext has launched AI Connector, a new feature that lets accounting and bookkeeping practices query their Dext data through Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot.

Available now to Dext Advanced partners in Canada and four other countries at no additional cost, the connector uses Model Context Protocol (MCP) to give AI tools access to information within a practice’s existing Dext account.

Partners can ask questions in plain language about clients, workflows, data health and team performance. Examples include identifying clients with the lowest data health scores, checking which client required the most time last month, or reviewing a client’s cash position ahead of a meeting.

“General-purpose AI is already part of how many practices work, but it doesn’t know a practice’s real numbers,” said Sabby Gill, CEO of Dext. “AI Connector closes that gap: it puts the same Dext data our users already trust into the AI tools they’re already using, so the answer they get back is grounded in their own practice, not a guess.”

The launch follows research previously covered by Fintech.ca highlighting the risks of relying on general-purpose AI for financial advice. In Dext’s survey of 500 Canadian accountants and bookkeepers, half said they knew of businesses that had suffered direct financial losses after acting on incorrect or misleading AI-generated advice. Among respondents encountering AI-related mistakes, 44 per cent reported spending up to three hours per month correcting them.

Dext positions AI Connector as a way to bring business-specific context into those conversations while keeping professional judgement with accountants and bookkeepers.

The feature is read-only and respects existing user permissions. Partners authenticate through their Dext account, and the connector can retrieve only information they are already authorized to access. It cannot modify records or grant additional access.

“AI Connector is built to retrieve, not to decide,” said Stephen Edginton, Dext’s Chief Product and Technology Officer. “It’s read-only and permission-aware by design, so a partner gets an answer from their own Dext data, and the practice keeps every judgement call.”

Data retrieved to answer a question is processed by the partner’s chosen AI provider, whose data policies apply. Dext recommends reviewing those providers’ enterprise data policies, including options governing whether information is used for model training.

The release adds to Dext’s recent product expansion. Fintech.ca previously covered the introduction of AI Assist, which learns from users’ bookkeeping decisions to suggest automation, and the Canadian launch of Dext Payments, which brings supplier invoice and employee expense payments into the platform.
