There is a meme floating around the internet. A user submits a complex document to ChatGPT, asking in the prompt, “is any of this illegal?”
The caption to the meme: “Yeah let me run this by my lawyer real quick.”
All good jokes are rooted in truth, and this one is no exception. While Grok can’t (yet) replace a good lawyer, the use of AI is rising rapidly within the legal sector.
A company out of Toronto is preparing for this future. Actually, they’re helping blaze the trail.
Canadian legal-tech upstart Alexi leverages proprietary artificial intelligence technology to empower legal professionals to simplify litigation processes and achieve better outcomes for clients.
Alexi claims its platform can reduce routine litigation tasks by up to 80%, according to chief executive officer Mark Doble, who founded Alexi in 2017.
“We’re not just advancing legal research; we’re transforming the entire litigation process,” Doble remarked in October. “AI allows litigators to enhance their services, reduce costs, and deliver better client outcomes.”
Available across Canada and the US, Alexi’s tools range from generating detailed research memos with relevant case law to summarizing complex legal documents.
Most recently, Alexi launched the first-ever Advanced Legal Reasoning platform. This freshly released ALR tech is designed to elevate litigators’ capacity to analyze any litigation files within minutes.
ALR allows lawyers to upload tens of thousands of documents to uncover insights into the strengths, weaknesses, and potential strategies buried in complexity.
“This is truly a market-defining solution representing a huge step forward for legal professionals across the U.S. and Canada,” believes Doble.
“For the first time, lawyers can use AI to perform the complex reasoning required to gain precise, actionable insights buried in the confluence of facts and legal issues of every litigation file,” the CEO noted. “This capability significantly boosts human lawyer reasoning and judgment in every legal dispute.”
Alexi encourages lawyers to ask advanced questions like, “What is the weakest part of our claim concerning liability?” The AI also creates comprehensive, issue-specific chronologies to help legal teams track critical details with precision, according to Doble, who says his company will continue to innovate the legal-tech space moving forward.
“This is only the beginning for Alexi as we push the boundaries of innovation in legal technology,” he stated.
Alexi is trusted by clients such as McLeod Law, Oatley Vigmond LLP, and Stewart McKelvey.
