Toronto-based fintech startup Karla has unveiled Karla 2.0, a next-generation personal finance platform designed to give Canadians greater clarity and control over their money through advanced AI and a commitment to transparency.
Built on what the company calls an “agentic framework,” Karla 2.0 delivers personalized insights, intuitive visualizations, and secure, independent financial guidance. The new platform expands on the company’s early success with KarlaRent, which has already helped thousands of renters across Canada build credit and save toward homeownership.
“The financial industry has built walls around the very people it is supposed to serve. With Karla 2.0 we are tearing those walls down,” said Robin Gray, CEO of Karla. “Canadians deserve a personal finance platform that works for them, not against them.”
Unlike U.S. apps such as Monarch Money or U.K.-based Cleo, Karla was built for Canadians, by Canadians. The company emphasizes that it is the first fully encrypted personal finance platform in Canada where data is never sold and every recommendation is independent. Hosted securely within the country, Karla aims to help users—from renters to homeowners, creators to entrepreneurs—plan and achieve their financial goals with confidence.
Beta users say the platform already stands out. “We’ve tried other finance apps, but they all wanted to push their own credit cards or loans. Karla is the first one that feels like it’s actually on my side,” said Howard and Victoria, a couple participating in the Karla 2.0 beta program.
Another early adopter, Apul Patel of Saskatchewan, credited Karla’s Rent Reporting feature with helping him build credit for the first time. “For the first time, my rent payments counted toward my credit score. I went from feeling stuck to seeing a path to homeownership,” he said.
At the heart of Karla 2.0 is an intelligent architecture capable of adapting to each member’s needs, transforming spending, saving, and investing data into clear, visually engaging insights. Every recommendation is fully independent, with no commissions, hidden agendas, or data sales. Trust and transparency, the company says, are not features—they are the foundation.
Founded on the belief that personal finance should empower people, not exploit them, Karla 2.0 represents the realization of that vision: a powerful, secure, and transparent platform built to help Canadians unlock their financial future.
